Fire Mock Drill Conducted at Navodaya Central School – 3rd July 2026

On 3rd July 2026, Navodaya Central School successfully organized a Fire Mock Drill in collaboration with the Fire and Emergency Services Department, Government of Raichur. The programme was conducted with the primary objective of creating awareness among students, teachers, and non-teaching staff about fire safety, emergency preparedness, and the importance of responding calmly and effectively during unforeseen fire emergencies.

The programme began with an introductory session by the Fire and Emergency Services personnel, who explained the common causes of fire accidents in schools, homes, and public places. They emphasized that while accidents can occur unexpectedly, proper awareness, timely action, and adherence to safety procedures can significantly reduce risks and save lives.

The officers demonstrated the correct methods of responding to different types of fire emergencies. Special emphasis was given to the safe use of fire extinguishers, explaining the different classes of fires and the appropriate extinguishers for each situation. Teachers and staff were given practical guidance on operating fire extinguishers and handling emergency situations until professional assistance arrives.

One of the major highlights of the programme was the live demonstration of an LPG cylinder fire accident. The Fire Department personnel explained the precautions to be taken if a cooking gas cylinder catches fire. They demonstrated how to remain calm, avoid panic, switch off the gas supply if it is safe to do so, and use appropriate firefighting techniques instead of pouring water directly onto the flames. The demonstration helped participants understand the correct methods of controlling such emergencies while ensuring personal safety.

A mock evacuation drill was also conducted, during which students and staff practised evacuating their classrooms in an orderly and disciplined manner. On hearing the emergency alarm, students followed the designated evacuation routes under the guidance of their teachers and assembled safely at the school’s designated assembly point. The Fire Department appreciated the discipline and cooperation shown by the students and staff throughout the exercise.

The officers also educated students about essential fire safety measures, including avoiding overcrowding during evacuation, not using elevators during a fire, staying low to avoid smoke inhalation, helping younger children when possible, and immediately informing responsible adults or emergency services if a fire is detected. They stressed that remaining calm and following instructions from trained personnel are crucial during any emergency.

The interactive session encouraged students to ask questions about fire safety, emergency response, and preventive measures. The Fire and Emergency Services team provided practical answers and valuable safety tips that students can apply both at school and at home. This interaction made the programme highly informative and engaging.

The Fire Mock Drill proved to be an invaluable learning experience for the entire school community. It enhanced awareness, improved preparedness, and instilled confidence among students and staff to respond effectively during fire emergencies. Navodaya Central School expresses its sincere gratitude to the Fire and Emergency Services Department, Government of Raichur, for conducting this informative and practical training programme. The school remains committed to promoting a safe, secure, and disaster-ready environment, ensuring the well-being of every student and staff member.
